What are the symptoms of the virus?

People with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have had a wide range of illnesses reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness and death.

These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell

In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.

If you are sick with COVID-19 or think you might have COVID-19, do not leave your home, except to get medical care, and do not visit public areas. Those experiencing these symptoms should call their doctor or healthcare provider about how to proceed. For more guidance, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.
